Making valentines for friends this year? Here are 5 frugal valentines ideas for you!

Whoever said that Valentine’s Day had to be about couples and romance? In my humble opinion, Valentine’s Day is much more fun when shared with friends as well.

You also don’t need to spend a ton of money to show your friends, family, or coworkers that you’re thinking of them this Valentine’s Day. There are some great frugal Valentine gift ideas to share on Valentine’s Day.

1. Mason jar cookie mix Valentine

Who doesn’t love M&M cookies? This ready to make cookie jar is a fun and frugal Valentine to give to friends.

In a bowl, whisk together:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups flour

Funnel these combined dry ingredients into a mason jar, and then, add red, pink, and white M&Ms on top of those ingredients in the jar.

Cover the lid with a colorful piece of cloth, and you’re done!

Make sure to print out and include this recipe card and baking directions to string around the neck of the mason jar.

2. DIY Sharpie gifts

This craft is fun, affordable, and ridiculously easy. All you need is a white mug (or other white porcelain), Sharpie markers in the color of your choice, and an oven. The dollar store usually has white porcelain coffee mugs that work great for this project. If not, you can get a white mug from Walmart or Target for less than five dollars. You can even use bowls or plates to the same effect.

I have had great success with the plain sharpies, but the oil-based Sharpie paint markers work well for this project.

Simply color on the mug with the design of your choice. You could write out Valentine quotes, draw a funny stick figure picture, or decorate it with hearts and flowers. Whatever you decide to do, once you’re done with your design, bake the mug in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for twenty minutes.

3. Red Velvet Valentine Puppy Chow

Puppy chow, monkey munch, trash, whatever you grew up calling it, here’s a Valentine’s Day twist on a childhood favorite. Red Velvet Valentine Puppy Chow (recipe at Your Cup of Cake), looks as sweet as it tastes.

Ziploc baggies or mini mason jars of this snack make a great gift to pass out to co-workers or family members to let them know that you’re thinking of them this Valentine’s Day.

4. Mini-Mason Jar Valentines

Do you have a friend who loves chocolate or simply has a sweet tooth? You don’t have to spend twenty dollars or more to show them you’re thinking of them this Valentine’s Day. Simply fill up a mini-jar or two of their favorite candies. They look adorable, and the gesture will mean more to your friend than simply buying an over-priced box of chocolates.

S’mores Valentines are perfect for the office or classroom. All you need for this fun Valentine’s Day craft idea is plastic baggies, a bag of individually wrapped mini chocolate bars, a bag of marshmallows, and a box of graham crackers.

In each baggie put two squares of graham cracker, a marshmallow, and a mini chocolate bar. Staple the following S’mores Valentine print out to the top of the baggie, and you’re done! Perfect, single-serve s’mores valentines to hand out to all of your friends, family, classmates, or coworkers.

  1. These are such cute ideas! I have to admit, it had never occurred to me to give Valentine’s Day gifts to friends (at least not since elementary school when you had to give a Valentine’s card to everyone in the class or no one at all, haha). I love the concept though — thanks!

    1. I LOVE Valentine’s Day and sharing small gifts with friends. It’s fun to take a moment to show my friends and family that I’m thinking of them.

  2. I love these ideas; so cute! I think it would also be nice to make a DIY body scrub or bath salts for some girlfriends. They’re super easy, pretty cheap and something most women enjoy but don’t purchase for themselves.
