If you’ve found your special someone, you may be feeling on cloud 9. Love is a beautiful thing, but what happens if you or your partner start gaining weight?
Just like the freshman 15, the love 15 comes from a huge shift in your life. But there are a few ways to keep it at bay! Here are my four tips to help you avoid gaining the love 15.
Don’t Mimic Your Partner
This is one of the biggest steps to avoid gaining the love 15! If your partner eats differently than you, you may find yourself trying to keep up. But don’t! You don’t have to finish all of your food, even if your partner finishes theirs. If they eat out all of the time, but you don’t, cut out the guilt of not joining in. Your health is just as important as your relationship, so don’t feel like you have to eat everything your partner does.
While there is nothing wrong with having pizza every now and then, you shouldn’t have to eat it every day just because your partner does. If anything, try to get them to mimic you and show them that there are ways to be healthier. Your waistline and your partner’s waistline will thank you.
Cook Healthy Meals At Home
Many new relationships rely on food as a way to connect, such as going out to eat for dates, ordering in while you binge watch Netflix, or even just cooking elaborate and sometimes unhealthy meals to showcase your skills to your partner.
While there is nothing wrong with going out to eat or ordering take out, you could always try cooking healthy meals at home! Not only is cooking your own healthy meals an easy way to avoid gaining the love 15, but it also helps you up your chef skills. The great thing about cooking at home is that it could be considered a date too. Go to the grocery store with your partner, find healthy ingredients that will make an easy and delicious meal, and cook together! You’ll have fun, you’ll create a better meal than fast food, and you’ll be able to bond!
Active Date Nights
If you aren’t the biggest fan of cooking, you could always try having active date nights! Instead of going to dinner and a movie, try out some fun and active activities. You could try new things like hiking, bike riding, rock climbing, or so many other options.
If you are going to try a more active date night, remember to dress and pack accordingly (for you and your partner). There is nothing worse than wearing the wrong shoes or not packing enough bottled water when you are in the middle of a hiking trail.
Active dates help you avoid the gaining the love 15, but they can also help improve the physical part of your love life as well. Not only does exercise give you a boost in confidence, but it also helps build stamina and strengthens your cardiovascular system. Talk about a win!
Indulge In Moderation
While the above tips will help you avoid gaining the love 15, that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself! You don’t have to give up fried chicken or beer just because you are with your significant other.
Make these dates extra special by actually planning for them, and feel free to order an extra cocktail or appetizer while you are out. There is nothing wrong with indulging in moderation, especially when there are so many great restaurants, bars, and cafes around!
Agree with your partner that you will both resume your healthy habits after your night (or day) out, and remember to stick to them! This will make your treat nights extra special, and also give you something to really look forward to.
As you can see, these tips are just a few easy ways to help you avoid gaining the love 15! Your health and lifestyle don’t have to suffer just because you are in love. In fact, it can be better because you now have a built-in workout and cooking buddy!
