Book Review: The Lemonade Stand

I was so honored when Shannon Ryan, from The Heavy Purse, first asked me to be a part of her special event celebrating her newest book, The Lemonade Stand!

In case you’re not aware, Shannon is a certified financial planner and has been helping people and businesses with their finances for over 20 years. During that time, she discovered that the root of many people’s money problems are from the way money was handled by their parents. Money attitudes are formed early in life, many before kids even set foot in school! As a result, Shannon has been teaching her two beautiful daughters about money since they were very young. She has also written several books to help parents and kids learn about money together and to encourage financial literacy.

When The Lemonade Stand arrived at my house, it had a bright yellow cover, and I couldn’t wait to read it! Also, Shannon even signed it, which is so amazing and sweet of her. 🙂

The Lemonade Stand is about Shannon’s two daughters, Lauren and Taylor, and their two friends. The four team up and run a lemonade stand to earn money for new toys, only to discover that their money is better off being put toward their “save, spend, and share” goals instead.

My favorite part of the book is that it not only teaches the important concept of saving, but it also teaches kids about giving and that how they use their money is up to them. This kind of attitude can help empower kids and make them feel in control, as well as showing them the true value of money. Money means a lot more when you have to work for it versus mom and dad just giving you the money for the toy that you want RIGHT NOW!

Great job Shannon!

This review is so helpful! I like the idea of a book that teaches financial literacy for kids as well as adults!

  1. Great review Kayla! I loved the book too and want to get it for my Grandson! Shannon certainly has the talent for combining her financial expertise with concepts for kids.

    1. Yes, I’ve seen it lots of places as well. I really LOVED the book 🙂 I’m sharing it with a few of my friends who have kids so they can read it with them. Then, I’m thinking of donating it to my local library so lots of kids can benefit from it! 🙂

  2. Thanks for your wonderful review, Kayla! I truly appreciate it. 🙂 I really think it’s important that we let kids have a say in how they use their money because when they get to choose where it is spent or who it supports, they care and are motivated to stick with their goals. Just the same as adults. Thanks again for your support!

    1. I’m so glad to have gotten to participate in this special event! I really loved your book Shannon 🙂 Great job!
