April marked the 10th month of my online freelance business and I’m still very happy to be working online. I still love writing, blogging, learning new skills, and more.
The biggest challenge I’m currently facing is making sure my own blog is taken care of too as I tend to put client work first since it pays the bills. I know I’m not alone in this and so I will be looking for ways to make sure my blog stays on the priority list going forward as I don’t want to totally abandon it in my search for paid writing gigs.
April was still a good month for my online business, but it was a little slower than March. I’m not bummed about it though as I still consider it a successful month.
My online income for April 2015: $1,691.51
Here is a breakdown of how I earned my money:
VA/Blog Management Services – $872.00
Writing – $610.00
Advertising on SHNM – $202.51
Other – $7.00
Despite my month being a little slower than March, I still blew my April income goal out of the water!
As always, you need to know that I don’t count my online income until the month it gets deposited into my account, so this is from some work at the end of March through about mid-April. I have made some more since then, but it will be included on my next report since it didn’t hit my account until May 1st (or later).
Remember, that my online income has not yet been taxed, which means that about 30% of what I make is going to be taken by Uncle Sam, and another portion of my income will be used for expenses, like internet, computer repairs, and PayPal fees. Additionally, I’m saving some of my income to be used for FINCON15!
While I’m enjoying my online work, I’m certainly no pro at blogging or at making money online, but if I can get started you can too! If you have any questions about how to get started blogging, freelancing, or about my online income don’t hesitate to contact me! I promise that I will do my best to answer your questions and if I can’t I will point you to someone who can!
I’m going to set my May income goal at $1,350! I’m excited to see my income and goals going up over time.
Here are my other online income reports to-date:
- March 2015 – $2,131
- February 2015 – $1,534
- January 2015 – $596
- December 2014 – $1,503.50
- November 2014 – $753
- October 2014 – $1,080
- September 2014 – $581
- August 2014 – $280
- July 2014 – $285
For kicks and giggles I decided to average my monthly online income for the 10 months I’ve been freelancing. Even with the smaller months at the very beginning, my average monthly online income (gross) is $1043.50.
Did you make any online income in April?

Nice work Kayla! My April was slower than the other months. I’m going to put taxes on the hook for that. May is already doing much better, so who knows!
Thanks Grayson! April was definitely slower for a lot of my clients and other blogger friends too. For me though, it was pretty steady, which is good. 🙂 May’s going to be great! I can just feel it.
Looks like you had another great month, Kayla! So proud of you! Have a great weekend. 🙂
Thanks Shannon!
Nice work Kayla!
I would love to pull in that amount of online income. One day, hopefully!
If I can, you can too 🙂
Great work! You’ve grown your income a lot in the last year.
It’s not without work, but luckily I love it 🙂
That’s so awesome, Kayla!! Congratulations on your success!
Thanks so much Amy!
That’s awesome news, Kayla! $1000 average a month is an awesome amount to bring in, and I know you’ll only continue to increase that monthly average! 🙂
Thanks Melissa! Yes, now that I’m brining in $1500+ each month, the average should continue to go up 🙂 (especially since it includes my first two months where I only made $280 and $285).
